I didn't say I use SEU for all my CL - which I infer from your comment, only for very small test programs. A generalized comment like yours says to me that you didn't really take in what I meant - sobeit!

And Notepad is not for me a good comparison - it is not a programming editor, and SEU is. Apples and oranges. They're both fruits, right? But an orange a day is not known to keep the doctor away!

I won't use Notepad hardly at all, but I do use Textpad with syntax files and clip libraries. I wouldn't use THAT either for Java - hey, guys, I'm not a complete idiot!! Stop throwing out silly objections, please!!

I do use Textpad the same way another developer here does (he uses a different programming editor that I don't know well). I use it for HTML and CSS and the like. And I even use Textpad similarly for classic ASP that I have to maintain - and no challenges needed in that area, I have a sufficiently good reason for doing it. Once I get what I want to test, I display it in Firefox and use Firebug to work with the results and try things. It's a very viable approach. Not all will take it, but it's doing well for me, instead of wasting my time looking for "suitable" graphical editors.

This is just me, but I find WDSC+ too big a hammer for doing a quick 10-line test in CL.For that I almost always use SEU. If there were a shop rule not to use SEU, I could live with that, though.
Sounds like "notepad is enough for me for this task" under Windows.

I could code Java in Notepad (with javac) but I'd rather use an IDE:
