I agree that no ERP system lives forever but should listen to its users and evolve with the times. It seems however to be just the kind of internal 'opinion' that was posted that adds to the perception that System 21 is going in the wrong direction. Although we are working for a number of clients in the UK that have used System 21 for many years and are looking to develop it, there are also quite a few companies looking to change. We've found the internal marketing of other solutions we also work with, such as Navision, goes a long way to making sure the lifespan is as long as possible. So in answer to the original question, there is no typical life span. It depends on the solution, the vendor and their plans of developing it, and the users (and whether the vendor listens to them or not). On the subject of GEAC maintenance, the general consensus we've received is that it's not worth it. This and the availability of source code is a real issue. Gary Pooley. Marketing Manager. My 5 year maintenance contract is up. What are other companies doing in regards to this issue? Is maintenance from GEAC really worth it? Opinions please. Anytime you want to post internal Geac emails on the public site, I'm sure everybody would welcome it. I'm sure it's a very frustrating situation to be in, still trying to promote the product while customer after customer looks elsewhere. Where is our sales force or is this not a Style Account so we don't care. Although System 21 will still be included in our investigation, I think it will most probably be replaced by a more modern web-based package. > -----Original Message----- > From: Hudson McVay [SMTP:hudsonm@steemer.com] > Sent: Friday, September 28, 2001 6:35 PM > To: jbausers-l@midrange.com > Subject: JBA ML - ERP system lifespan > > Hi everyone, > > Was just wondering if the group had a thought about how long the [typical] > lifespan of an ERP installation is.
