Having upgraded in the past year the statement I received was that if the change in box is at the same level, ie if you stay at a P30 level, most vendors including IBM will have no charge for software upgrade. In other words an upgrade of a 720 P30 to a 820 P30 would not result in a charge from most vendors. This was the case for us last year. Of the 12 applications we have on our system 3 never charge for upgrades, 8 had no charge due to staying at the same level and one charged us an upgrade fee, surpassingly the one charging us was not JBA/GEAC.
