I would second this.  I am still dubious as to whether the mail which
originally sparked this discussion wasn't an advertisement.  If it did come
from the executive of a large company it was one sided and short sighted
(has he really considered the full implications of not upgrading - ever?).
That is not to say that GEAC are perfect but there are pros and cons to
every support decision.

My second point is that the idea that GEAC is monitoring the list just in
order to punish those that criticise them is a bit much isn't it?
Personally I think that it's a good thing that GEAC consultants are
monitoring the list - that way they can get a good feel for the type of
problems we face.  I know that when I've submitted problems in the past GEAC
consultants have got back to me with solutions and were very helpful.

Another real concern is that GEAC monitors this list
like "big brother" and people may feel they cannot
speak freely for fear of retribution from GEAC.  If
they don't like something you've said they can find
ways to retaliate.  I know someone who it has happened
to.  I will not give details here but please believe
that there can be consequences for speaking freely if
THEY do not like what you're saying.


PS. Cian, did you fix your printer problem and if so,
how?
