The negative stock report is also driven (in a two step process) from the
INP96 file... So if you're using that report you will want to run the
monthend report to prime the records for the negative stock report, prior
to clearing INP96... We run this report every night in the night job in
Machine Manager... We've also written a month end routine that clears
several files data that is thirteen months old or older... And for those
files we have also set them to reuse deleted records so file reorgs are no
longer required to free up deleted records...

INP96 is daily movements... It is intended to have prior period records
purged after every monthend... Read the Redbook on this topic, it is very
informative... As others have correctly stated, INP95 is intended to keep
the history records for much longer and is the file used from 4/INE - Stock
Movements Inquiry...

If you're not using AFI or the 31/INR Stock Movements report or the 34/INR
Negative Stock report then you don't really need the INP96 records at all,
and in any event you don't need anything more than the current periods
records in the file...

Good luck...

If you are not running AFI or BFI it is possible to manually clear INP96.
Keep INP95, it is what is viewed when you do a stock movement inquiry. SQL
or programmatically delete all the records from INP96 for all but the
current period. If you need assistance please feel free to email me
directly.

So let me get this straight. Since I do not use AFI and my inp95 and inp96
both have the same number of records (3,000,000+) I should force a 1 or a 0
into GLUP96 in the inp96 file so that the next time my month end runs the
records will be available for purging?
