I think you can make the agreement that the same amount of effort expended on showing (for example) how easily a print report can be converted to a browser complete with hot links to other reports is a more valuable use of time. It might even help change perceptions. Doing stuff with 5250 will never ever do that.

lol... I want to be clear, too. Actually, I pretty much agree with Jon. 5250 and OS/2 are never coming back. Their day in the sun has come and gone, same as mine. Selling text-based anything today is not a good business plan.

On the other hand I am seeing companies promising to be off that old stuff by the end of the year... well maybe the middle of next year. I first heard that song 25 years ago, and it's still being sung. Nothing wrong with doing the stuff we can easily do. Is there? Give existing staff a ramp to the future; let them work through this new stuff at their own speed. They have a lot of tribal knowledge, and that has value and we can honor it.

Just to be 100% clear on my position. I am NOT saying throw away all 5250. I AM saying that efforts to make them do things they were never intended to do when there are other better ways is a waste of energy.
