RPG with a nice toolkit like CGIDEV2 or eRPG SDK is a great web

Does this make RPG the strongest web dev language?

Compared to what on the IBM i? Net.Data? WebSphere?

In the case of my organisation, .NET running on Microsoft Windows. The
web team get the data via stored procs (mostly) and it took time
convincing management that the web people didn't need ODBC direct to DB2
tables.

I was in a similar situation even before (and during) my writing of
the first eRPG book.

The "PC" team set up a customer service website that all the AS400s
(that's what they were then) sent their data to and they used Cold
Fusion to set up the web site. 30 or so companies putting all their
data in one place so internally we could search for invoice history,
etc.

But, it was slow, terrible, and replication wasn't very good at that
time. Once the DB had more than 1000 records it fell flat on it's
face.

So, I offered as a POC to do it in RPG. 2 months later, it was chosen
over the PC and Cold Fusion solution. They bought a dedicated machine
for it, and as far as I know, still running today. (I left the
company a while ago now to go out on my own).

They also did some .net and stored procedures for other applications
later after I had left. I am still in touch with a few of the higher
up programmers and they HATE it. With so much passion... lol..

ps Thank you for signing my copy of e-RPG all those years ago. There's
a lot of great info in there for beginners who won't need to blaze the
same trail.

Haha.. I remember that! It's one of only a few that I did sign. Most
were at COMMON in Minneapolis where I went up for a couple hours to
hang out at the MC booth. Time is so short these days, but I hope to
attend again now that my good friend Amy Hoerle is on the board. :)
