If they are using sub-procedures they have to have a H spec to set DFTACTGRP(*NO), etc. anyway unless you've changed the command default for that so adding a few extra characters to that line of code shouldn't be that much of a problem ;)

There is that to be considered. But that seems easier than getting a bunch of programmers to add the H spec to every program they touch.

Personally I'd opt for the H spec (or free format ctl-opt) method that way if there's ever an OS upgrade or moving to a new system you don't have to remember to change the command defaults again.

Absolutely. But I wanted to find out first if there was a downside to ALL programs being set to it.

Since it seems that nobody can come up with one, then I can consider either that or the H spec.

*NODEBUGIO didn't use to exist.

When IBM gave it to us, they left the prior behavior as the default.

The disadvantage to *NODEBUGIO is that you can't debug I/O. For
example, if you're getting an error reading a field in the
(RPG-generated) input-specs, but want to see the values you're getting
on prior input-specs, you can't do so without *NODEBUGIO.

In my experience, this comes up very, very, very rarely, so I always
code *NODEBUGIO.
