I used this technique to create my own WRKDBF-type tool. All written in
free-format RPG.

Anyway, I define my generic program-described updatable keyed file like
this:

     FDTAFILKIU UF A F 5000   120AIdisk    UsrOpn InfDS(FilDS4)

This file is overridden to the actual file being processed. I've checked
and it does indeed work with composite keys where the key fields may be out
of order and may be spread throughout the record format.

Of course, since my program must be totally generic (because I have no idea
what file will be processed), I dynamically retrieve the field information
using API's and dynamically build everything as I go. works perfectly, but
probably overkill :)
