You are absolutely right with that students question. However, you are missing that these guys have moved on to the technical discussion on when and where a DOW and DOU conditions are executed on a loop. I am sorry but it doesnt matter whether it is a DOW or DOU the logic of the program MUST go from the screen and through the steps to the end of the loop, so it will ALWAYS write a record to that file no matter what you do. Or am I missing something? Jeff Crosby wrote:Shiva - I'm NOT going to give you the technical answer, but anyone who has had the CS101 course (basic programming logic) has surely been taught that a DO WHILE loop (RPG/400's DOW operation) doesn't check the looping condition until it reaches the END of the loop (RPG/400's ENDDO operation).I think that's incorrect. Doesn't the DOW check at the start of the
loop
and the DOU check at the end?-- This is the RPG programming on the AS400 / iSeries (RPG400-L) mailing
