No actually I use embedded SQL quite a bit...but not ALL RPG programmers do...not all shops purchase the DB2 tools (i.e. SQL, etc...) Not to mention that it shouldn't be that difficult to do.... As to the stubborn streak...yep I got one...but that was not a motivating factor in my email....besides IBM *IS* updating RPG to help us programmers more easily achieve our results...so why not??? The thought of putting imbedded SQL in your code go against your stubborn streak? Then put the sql into a service program and export the subprocedure and you've got a new bif. If you still want the bif, then submit a DCR to emulate the sql function. You can submit a dcr at https://www-912.ibm.com/r_dir/ReqDesChange.nsf/Request_for_Design_Change ?OpenForm Rob Berendt
