Okay Gary - here is my stupid question of the day.
Without going into too much detail, does your sub-file use either ERRMSG or
ERRMSGID - and - are any of these messages being displayed at the time the
refresh is being done?

At this point you are in this pretty deep. Would it be useful to make a
small test environment for your data, with just a few records, and walk
through your data very carefully? Something in your environment is not
working the way you think it is.
