But let me take the other side. If my employees aren't willing to invest $50 for a book at barnes and noble and a few hours of time on their home PC to learn something that will help their career, why should I make that investment? The beauty of learning .NET or Java is that you can do it at home on your PC, you don't need access to an AS/400. My deal with my employees it this, "you learn a new technology, at least as far as the web and Amazon will take you on your own time and expense."
