Well, one solution is my product, PSC/400. PSC/400 uses a simple green screen command to automatically convert green screen applications to run in the web. The converted programs will still run in a 5250, in a browser with a 5250-like interface, and in a browser with a modern Open Standards interface that uses cascading style sheets for look and feel. The interface uses JSP Model II: it is completely browser based and very fast. The browser interface supports function keys as well as standard input editing features such as numeric-only and uppercase-only fields. Security is enabled via an industry-unique security exit program, and all programs use standard OS/400 security and users run under their own OS/400 user profile; this is especially important for auditing and spool file control. The generated JSPs can be hand modified, although with each release of the product we incorporate more automatic features. In our most recent release, we allow you complete control over the names, locations and appearance of command key buttons. The next release will allow customized dropdowns and more complex input types. Everything is stored on the iSeries in database tables which you can populate or modify as needed. There is also an XML interface which allows you to edit the control files using the text editor of your choice: no bulky PCs required. There are no site licenses and no user-based pricing. The product is powerful, fast, flexible and stable. We have clients that have been up and running for years using the tool. PBD's clients include Infinium Software, IIT and Major League Baseball among dozens of others.
