If that works then maybe it was the possibility that you have an error indicator on your WRITE statement that was being ignored. Do you have a joblog? If you changed your original file with the older version still in QTEMP, and you haven't signed off/on or deleted the file in QTEMP, your program is still using the old version of the file, which would explain why you're not getting a level check. The second thing to look at is, are you sure that your programs are really writing records out?
