Bob, one big reason the TGTRLS compilers don't allow new function is
that some people send source code along with their product.  If that
code won't actually compile on the customer's machine, everyone
would be unhappy.

(You can't control thread drift in a forum.  Anyway, presumably your
survey won't allow discussion.)
