If your aim is to monitor/analyse updates/writes to a particular file,
why don't you journal the file, then display the journal to a pf ?

3000 bytes is the limit.

The performance cost for a SBMJOB for every database update will be very
high. Much better performance will result if you log the record "in line"
rather than start a new job for each record. In your trigger program,
declare an externally described data structure that matches the file you
want to log and do a move and a write.

A non-RPG alternative is to journal the file.
