I personally would prefer the line terminator to go away; but if it gets us free format "quicker" because of the ease of writing the compiler, then I can live with that. As for GOTO, I am glad also to see it fall by the way side, some opinions have been that it should stay - IMHO it is an ancient technique whose time has come and gone, old code should not be simply ran though a conversion tool, the systems should be looked at as a whole and coded with OOP in your mindset, just leave old code as is, and use the new tools as you can. I have been in shops where they are still using S/34 code (raw and ugly RPGII)- the rule being, " if it isn't broke, why fix it" Free format, "true" ILE, and OOP is a whole new mindset for us "old-timers", and we should embrace the challenge to change and grow, to let go of indicators, to structure not only our code, but our whole systems to be re-usable, reliable, and robust. just my two cents to the pot... Once released, the chances of us getting this changed will be slim for the GOTO, and absolutely NONE for the statement terminator. Ideally, you can participate in the feedback forum at www.as400network.com to share your opinions. If you can't do that, then please share them on this list; since we know that Hans & Barbara monitor it.
