The HP program is a pc based client that monitors all the HP printer hardware on the win network. I saw it in action when onsite. It lists all the printers, how much paper in each tray, whether online/offline, and has an "alert" function to highl;ight printers with problems. Since the iSeries joblog msg indicates a comm problem, I wondered if others may have run into these comm problems when such a monitor pc app in place.
Strange that only one of many printers has this issue right now and am assuming a printer or Jet Direct hardware issue.
Thanks for the info on the 3426 code.

Jim,

What do you mean by "HP Monitor Program"?? Is this a program that runs
on the PC? Or on the i?

I'm a little confused, because you show an error message that's
obviously from an IBM i job log, yet from your description, it sounds
like the HP Monitor Program is a PC program (not to mention that you
posted the question on the PCTECH mailing list.)

The error number cited (3426) means "Connection Reset", the C error
number is ECONNRESET. This error code means that a TCP connection ended
abnormally. Usually when the remote host disconnects while there's
still data in the send buffer, waiting to be sent to that host. It
could also be the result of a bug in the TCP/IP stack, but that seems
unlikely to only crop up in communications with one printer. I suppose
it could also be a hardware problem if hardware is corrupting the
network data, though I haven't actually seen that happen.

If indeed, this is a PC program, and the job log fragment is coming from
the IBM i spooler, I'd suggest the problem may be caused by the monitor
program causing the printer to disconnect from the IBM i spooler in
mid-transmission.

Not sure how helpful that is, though.

I am having problems at a site where there are a dozen HP printers,
mostly 4000T and 4000TN.
The 4000T have a HP Jet Direct box for network connectivity.
Ever since local tech installed a HP Monitor program (I don't know actual title), the printers have been less than stable (. It appears it mostly monitors
paper & toner.
Other day thay found two Jet Directs w/same ip - and no one knows how that happened (dhcp off in both).
Anyone have experiences with this HP program?
Getting this msg a lot - and have read IBM doc in this area.
