I stopped when I was working through the Microsoft install steps and found I was unable to enable Hyper-V.  That feature is not available in my Windows 10 Home installation, so I didn't go past that.  As it turns out, I (so far) rather like the easy integration of WSL 1 networking, so I see no reason to spend a lot of time on WSL 2.

I'm trying to love WSL. I can't do WSL2 because I don't have Windows 10

to force myself to pony up the $100 upgrade/extortion fee.
Are you sure you can't do WSL 2 on Home? Have you tried, or are you
just going by what you've seen online?

Some quick Googling turns up people who (1) say that Home can't do WSL
2, because it can't do one or both of Hyper-V or Virtual Machine
Platform; (2) people who say they are actually running WSL 2 on Home;
(3) people who cite Microsoft documentation in support of (1); and (4)
people who say some pages of MS documentation are out of date, and
would you please refer back to (2) already.

Here's a thread exhibiting all of those:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/29175/installation-of-hyper-v-on-windows-10-home.html

I found this, which seems promising:

https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/WSL/issues/899

At least, that last thread doesn't strike me as people just talking
out of their asses.

I cannot personally vouch for any assertions anyone makes about WSL 2,
because I have not been sufficiently motivated to try any version of
WSL. To be perfectly honest, the native Windows versions of things
have been more than good enough for me so far.
