Taking Kevin's idea, I added Maridb to my path
(I have the latest ZendDBi loaded:)
http://www.zend.com/en/solutions/modernize-ibm-i/ibm-i-product/dbi
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/local/mariadb/bin
ran the following:
-bash-4.3$ pip install MySQL-python

You are using pip version 8.1.2, however version 9.0.1 is available.
You should consider upgrading via the 'pip install --upgrade pip' command.
I do not have a use case to make sure it worked, but it installed it.
