Instructions say run 'pip install MySQL-python' so that is what I am doing. I also found a tar'ed version of the scripts: Those instructions said to run 'python setup.py build' which I did and it failed with the exact same errors.

So, somewhere the wrong parameters for the compiler are being added. Right now I am searching to find the correct script that builds the compiler string. Normally I'd look for the makefile but, this being python I am learning a bit as I go....

You ran the config before the build?

Still playing! Trying to install MySQL-Python for an app I am working
on. I get a series of errors when I use 'pip install MySQL-python':

gcc: error: unrecognized option '-q64'
gcc: error: unrecognized option '-qstrict'
gcc: error: unrecognized option '-qoptimize=2'
gcc: error: unrecognized option '-qmaxmem=8192'
gcc: error: unrecognized option '-qalign=natural'
gcc: error: unrecognized option '-qldbl128'

I did a quick search and found a post from Kevin that said "The -q64 is
only for the IBM xlc compiler." OK! I get that. But the compiler line is:

gcc -pthread -fno-strict-aliasing -g -O2 -DNDEBUG -DPASE -O2 -std=c99
-Dversion_info=(1,2,5,'final',1) -D__version__=1.2.5
-I/usr/local/mysql/include -I/QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/OPS/Python2.7/include/python2.7
-c _mysql.c -o build/temp.os400-powerpc-2.7/_mysql.o -g -q64 -ma -qstrict
-qoptimize=2 -qmaxmem=8192 -qalign=natural -qldbl128 -DUNIV_AIX -DUNIV_AIX

I might be able to hack the build script but on the offhand chance that
Kevin might be lurking during the holidays, perhaps there is a more elegant
solution? I have GCC 4.6.2 installed.
