as with most open source programming there are some other option for python with MySQL.
I’m not sure why you are choosing this one, but is a new project maybe one of the other options would work “easier”.
I’m not trying to dissuade you from your choice, I just felt i should mention.

I was searching and MySQL has a "pure python” API (their words)
