I just powered up the "MERCURY" 170 with an "amp clamp" (and an adapter
allowing me to use an "amp clamp" on a corded device), and I'm in the
middle of doing so with the E4A (with one PSU unplugged).
The 170:
Standby is 0.06A (which, assuming a 120VAC supply, calculates to 7.2VA)
Late in the IPL, with all drives running, is a mere 1.7A (204VA)
With the system running, but quiet, it draws about 1.5A (180VA).
Obviously, a "fat" 170, like MARS, would draw quite a bit more, since
the second PSU is *not* for redundancy's sake.
*******
The E4A (on one PSU):
Standby is 0.24A (28.8VA)
Initial surge: 1.0A (120VA)
IPL: 2.5-3.5A (300-420VA)
Running, but quiet, on one PSU: 2.7A (324VA)
Running, but quiet, on both PSUs: 1.5-1.7A (180-204VA) per PSU.
So if the box is only in intermittent use, and not usually left powered
up unsupervised, and you plan on doing an immediate PWRDWNSYS at the
first sign of flaky AC, it's probably not necessary to use that big of a
UPS.
