Hello Richard,

I’m just curious how many of you folks will stay at V7R5 because of this short sighted move or removing SDA and forcing RDI as an option or the non-completed VS Code SDA alternative.
Not an exact answer to your question, but…
If SDA is so very critical, as well as staying current with OS and machinery to enable blaming IBM in case something goes wrong…
There is always the possibility to have an older, unsupported machine left aside solely for running SDA, while the actual production machine is current. There are some possibilities to adapt a given development workflow for such a scenario. In any case, it will be more cumbersome than running SDA directly.
We have a number of older customers using S/36 environment code and I don’t think I can advise them to go beyond V7R5 unless they are planning to stop maintaining their green screen apps.
My personal opinion: SDA for creating screens is utterly cumbersome. As soon as I understood the DDS syntax, I quickly switched to editing DDS by hand. I do use SDA as a read-only tool for preview purposes, though. Option 17 in PDM is very convenient. Dunno how your S/36 customers are actually using SDA.
