Up to V7R4 could also be a WINS server and I can say I’ve never seen that.

Makes sense only rarely. Most of the time, companies have an established Windows AD domain infrastructure, which handles that kind of stuff.

Not sure if WINS pertains only to NetBIOS/NBT. Probably yes, because CIFS (Port 445) entirely relies on stock DNS for name resolution.
