However, it has been established for decades that "network browsing" through broadcasts is highly unreliable, especially when many clients are involved. Microsoft has therefore invented the concept of a central "browsing server", called WINS. I haven't found evidence that QNTC configuration supports specifying a WINS server.

All in all, manual directory creation seems preferable because probably more reliable.
