DDM does exist on the mainframe using DB/2 (but not VSAM or other storage
techniques), but I don't think (at least last time I checked) it supports
TCP. It's all APPN/APPC, meaning SNA.

I think the network control program on the mainframe needs to add the LU2
devices needed to communicate.

Tedious work as I remember it, having done that a time or two in the far
past......

Are you wanting to create an api on the mainframe? in order to call it
from the IBM i?

No. I want to read and write from/to "data" saved on OS/390. Because data
is organized in data sets and I'm not aware of any "glue software" to serve
pure data sets to the network. The only thing I'm aware of is DB2. But I
have not (yet) established knowledge how DB2 and backing store (VSAM?) work.

My terms might be a bit blurry, because I'm not really fluent in this area.

No real use case, but sheer curiosity.
