Yes, I could write one for the IBM i too (I actually have most of it
written), but I feel like it's encouraging bandaids. :)

This "app" is called "stunnel" and is basically a wrapper around the
"openssl s_client" command. Very flexible:
- Incoming modern TLS to plain text.
- Incoming modern TLS to "supported" TLS (MITM), e. g. for systems which
lack Letsencrypt support or just offer older crypto levels being still
supported by OpenSSL but no longer state of the art.
- Incoming plain text connection to modern TLS.

Note that this is not a SOCKS or otherwise "flexible" proxy: The
destination address and port are fixed in the configuration.

Personally, I'm using it to have my old V4R5 model 150 available via
telnet/s supporting modern crypto. Works like a charm!
