Tea leaves tell me the Unix side of Power is pushing deeper in the IBM i.

I have about 3-4 more years and then I'm skipping all releases.

I have to say, I don't understand this comment. The withdrawal of support and enhancements of products that are 30 years old and haven't seen much use and might have security vulnerabilities - that is nothing about Unix. It is partly about IBM's resources and should they dedicate those resources to these things.

I read "the Unix side" as referring to PASE. The capabilities afforded
by PASE are developing much faster than anything on the native IBM i
side. A lot of open source stuff doesn't even have to be "ported" per
se, it can run or be compiled in PASE exactly as-is. In a sense, some
meaningful portion of the development that's happening around the
world by volunteers on other platforms amounts to development for IBM
i, whether intended that way or not.

Even IBM's own development efforts are probably going much faster (but
to less fanfare) in PASE than native i, and I would guess they're not
even devoting that much resource to PASE.

Or do you mean you will be retiring in 3 or 4 years? That's one way to skip releases, right? :)

Indeed! And that's the rosier way of leaving the platform entirely.
