Jon Paris has said that IBM should have *totally* sunsetted some functionality from IBM i to shove us along in improving software development and using more recent tools.

But IBM hates to alienate ancient customers so it lets them keep working. Will they help you out if an obscure glitch somewhere there messes up something? I don't know. Maybe paid time.

Does System 36 emulation still work? I don't know. Probably is my guess.

The withdrawal of support and enhancements of products that are 30 years old and haven't seen much use and might have security vulnerabilities - that is nothing about Unix. It is partly about IBM's resources and should they dedicate those resources to these things. They are not going away, as Jim states clearly. And there have been other products handled the same way - maybe not as many at once, I don't know.

Or do you mean you will be retiring in 3 or 4 years? That's one way to skip releases, right? :)


But IBM i is still IBM i as we've known it, with more that expands on the trusted capabilities we know already.

Listed (among others) is "Rational Development Studio for i (5770-WDS)

including Rational Developer for i, Code for i, and others." RDi can do

We cannot be the only business that does green screen menus and apps.
There has to be thousands and thousands of shops.
