Just to add to Rob's point here.

Sometimes IBM don't know for sure if somthing will continue to work. This is particularly true when major version boundaries are hit. Back in V5 (or was it V6?) when we had to re-encapsulate everything - there were certain features being used by IBM that were known to be potentially problematic without major expenditure. The PL/I compiler was such a beast. We had even made plans to assist remaining users to migrate to another language "just in case". In the end, one of the brains in Rochester discovered a simple "fix" that meant it would continue to work without major expense.

In such cases IBM will often issue this kind of warning so that, if all else fails, they can say "we told you so".

Chances are good it will all continue to work - but if push comes to shove IBM are basically telling you that they ain't spending big bucks to help you stay in the past!

I think what this may mean depends on what you choose to believe.

If you want it to mean that it will carry on forever for all releases for
all eternity but just without technical support, then believe so.

If you want it to mean that it will run on all current releases but may not
run on any future release, then believe so.

If you want it to mean that it may suddenly stop working due to some new
PTF which patches/updates/etc, then believe so.

If you want it to mean that it may suddenly stop working even without any
PTFs due to any number of obscure things (including 1940vs2039 type stuff),
then believe so.

Reality only matters when it smacks you upside the head with a 2x2.
