Thanks Rob,
Maybe that is where we are headed. IBM tech says that the B6000102 I
saw means that the image/source wasn't found. Things are getting even
more interesting now. He suggested that I just go ahead and create the
DVD on physical media and then SLIP (regardless of respin level, so you
are right, H should work). So, I went out to where the server lives,
burned the DVD but then things took s a turn (for the worse, IDK...).
When I went to insert it into the external DVD drive that was USB
attached to the system, I didn't see any lights and the drawer wouldn't
open which was an indication to me that there was a connection issue
with the DVD drive. I checked it by connecting it to my laptop, it lit
up and the drawer opened so I knew the drive was OK. I traced the USB
cable on the drive to the back of the server and although the cable was
in the USB port, the USB port(s) (there are two in the same connector
in the back) itself was loose. I shut down the system, opened the case
and secured the connector again in the back of the server. When I
turned the system back on and then inserted the USB cable for the drive
in the front USB port, it lit up and I was able to open and close the
drawer. So I figured I was OK.
Started the IBM i LPAR with D / M IPL set from the HMC. I eventually
got a B2003110 LP=00001 which is an indication that it can't find the
DVD drive. I also created a bootable USB drive but it doesn't light up
when I insert it into the front USB port. I know the USB ports were
working at one time because that is how I installed the OS. Pretty sure
that is also the way I created the Linux LPAR I am running.
So, now it looks like there is some issue with the USB ports. Don't know
what could cause it or why they have failed. I have a suspicion that
maybe there is a config issue because the drive DID light up and I was
able to insert the DVD just after I powered up the system (pulled all
the plugs after shutting it down). Cold start and the drive seemed to
come alive but now, nada.
I expect the IBM tech will suggest that it is a HW issue and to contact
HW support (which I do not have). Not sure how to recover in any case
without functioning USB ports...things seem to just keep getting
worse....this 9009 is only 3 years old....
