Yes, installing Ghostscript (in PASE) would be a great solution [...]

What makes me feel uncomfortable with this solution is that I haven't found
any clear instruction page yet alongside with the fact that I know very
little about PASE, so I am asking myself what to do in case of trouble,
since Ghostscript installation seems to be a bit more complicated than 7z.

If you are on 7.2 or later, then installation of Ghostscript is
actually much simpler than the old 7-Zip (p7zip) packaged by Scott.

In fact, there is also a newer version of p7zip from IBM that is also
simpler to install than Scott's.

Everything provided by IBM for PASE is now ridiculously simple: Just
one command on a command line, or a small number of clicks in ACS.

The catch is that you might have to first install that super-easy
installation system, known as yum. (I mentioned yum in passing when I
seconded the Ghostscript recommendation.)

As an aside: Does anyone know if yum is preinstalled on the latest IBM
i versions? (I used the bootstrap method, so I don't know.)

Probably the simplest way for most people to get started with this
stuff is via ACS:

From what I can tell by reading the above page (I don't use ACS
myself), ACS handles installation of yum if you don't already have yum
installed.

The comprehensive "get started with open source on PASE" documentation is here:
