I know the article says "using default IP address" but a link at the end shows you how to use the control panel to change the IP address. This is quite common. Especially if you want to hook up via your companies internet and not a dedicated wire.
I think you may be able to use iACS for system console stuff and still use your custom emulator for regular 5250 stuff. Much like I can have a session on iACS using a shared system console connection via the HMC and multiple other connections doing regular 5250 stuff via iACS.
