Rob,

Not sure if this answers your question but we are a small development shop
whereas you are a large production shop.

While you have real time DR to different data centres we have local tape
and network backup because of cost.

We also like to show potential customers what the box looks like as
opposed to a picture and how noisy it is (Although we don't do an IPL with
fans screaming!!)

If we need an engineer I like to oversee what is being done or do it
myself with phone support if needed.

And I have total control over the entire system.

Maybe I just like to be in control :-)

We still have an 820, 520, 170, 600 and a P01 - Sounds like a museum. The
C10 went to the dump.

Cheers

Why your own system "as a developer"? Why isn't an lpar on someone else's
system good enough? At work we have our own systems, but they are in DC's
that are at least a 2 hour drive away. I go to those DC's maybe 3 times a
year. I do OS upgrades, PTF's, full system saves, etc remotely. All of
that makes me more of an admin than a developer. So how does having a
machine close enough to lay hands on buy you anything "as a developer"?
