Me mention of Fix Central was just to set the context. I'm not familiar with "download director", I always used FTP.

In the end, do it however you wish, but fix central is a different discussion. I've very rarely had any issue with fix central, so I can't relate to the problems there. Then again I always use FTP to get the images so I don't have to deal with the download director foolishness.
And yes, we often use CLP to order, ( via SNDPTFORD) download, and get ready for apply. Almost completely automated.

" the image catalog IS the simplest and easiest method"
I disagree. I used image catalogs with Fix Central. When I gave up on Fix Central and switched to SNDPTFORD I couldn't use image catalogs due to an OS bug. IBM patched the bug, but by that point I'd started using SAVF. It's much easier and I have no intention of going back.
I guess I missed the discussion about old SAVFs. I've never had a problem with it.
