Yep, you could use it that way.

There are folks that say delete the LPP. My response is why? It takes next
to no room, and the latest PTF gets it as up to date as it will ever be.
Once you've gotten anything that might use OPS upgraded to the newer code
which will be in a different directory, then consider removing it. In the
meantime, it won't hurt anything.

Let's pretend you loaded product X and X has a prereq of 5733OPS option ##.
You figure out the matching YUM distro and load that instead. Product X
blows up because it's missing 5733OPS-##. You call them and they say
they'll fix that when iNext+2 comes out. So you want a work around and try
the symbolic link, or try to find where they have their PATH statement.
Then cross your fingers and hope the option and the YUM distro are
compatible.

Sure, but why? The YUM variety is going to be the future.....

Possibly dangerous idea but...
Couldn't you just use a symbolic link to fix those?

Well, 5733OPS populated /QOpenSys/usr/bin and so forth.

yum populates /QOpenSys/pkgs/bin and so forth.

A lot of the same programs, but the new ones are uniformly better, in my
experience, and I've loaded hundreds (literally) of them.

How bold. I like it. I may follow suit.
Now if I could only remember why I initially loaded 5733OPS.
