No need. I haven't removed anything. I just path my shell session the way I
want it.

It's perfectly cromulent in the Unix world to have directories full of
different versions of the same commands and control which ones you are
getting by your path.

I've even kept around the old path, later in my path, in case I invoke
something I need that I've forgetten to yum. Probably stupid, I should
remove that path element.

$ cat .bashrc
ANT_HOME=/opt/apache-ant-1.10.1
UBLU_HOME=/opt/ublu
PKGS=/QOpenSys/pkgs
PATH=$PKGS/bin:/QOpenSys/usr/bin:/QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/OPS/tools/bin:$PKGS/lib/nodejs8/bin:$PATH:$ANT_HOME/bin
export ANT_HOME UBLU_HOME PATH
alias mc='LC_ALL=EN_US.UTF-8 /QOpenSys/pkgs/bin/mc -c $*'
TERM=xterm
export TERM
export PS1='\u@\h:\w\$ '

Possibly dangerous idea but...
Couldn't you just use a symbolic link to fix those?
