I disagree on this. Some 13 years I work on a utility to create help panels for DSPFS and CMDs; never used the HELP DDS keywords in the DSPFs.

With using RTVCSRLOC DDS (if that is the correct one, can't remember) and passing the program name and display field name the cursor is on just calling the DSPHLP API is enough to display the help for that field.

The cursor not on the field it will show the help for the program.

And on CMDs you only have to name the help panel on the CRTCMD or CHGCMD parms for help panels.

Do not know how it will work with the HLPARA keyword in DDS.

KInd regards,

It might need APIs for some stuff, for
help screens, not hardly at all, usually.

Whether you need APIs for UIM help screens, or not, depends upon
if they are referenced directly from commands, menus, or display files or
you need to get fancy and reference then directly from your user-written
programs. I am of the understanding that if you want to provide
context-sensitive help for your own DDS-based display files then you have
to use API's from the program behind the display file. Otherwise, UIM
menus and list panels provide support for context-sensitive help panels
without requiring the use of APIs at all.
