IBM i FTP is pretty classic Unix FTP, which latter has dir, ls, cd, lcd etc.

If IBM are following anything, they're following the Unix party line.

The NAMEFMT stuff is SITE stuff. SITE-specific commands are part of the FTP
spec. NAMEFMT matches z/OS and z/VM.

If there's any part of IBM i that is unsurprising to a Unix weenie, it's
FTP.
