Here's something to really try your patience...
Is your system's DVD read/writable? Can you do a full system save to DVD?
We are talking about a small hobby system here, right?
I have done some saves of some 'archive' data to the DVD drive. Very slow
but it did take up very little physical space on the shelf compared to a
tape cartridge.
