My guess is that this guy has gone casters up but...tapping into the brain trust here.
I have a 3580-S4E external SAS LTO4 drive that is throwing an error when I try to read or write to the drive. Tape loads OK but if I run DSPTAP TAP01 I get an error "Media error on volume *N device TAP01". I have repeatedly cleaned the drive, blew out the dust and ANZPRB says it's a 95% chance that the hardware has failed. I tried different tapes. Varied the drive on an off. Reset the SAS cable connections but no joy. I hardly ever use the thing because I don't really have a great deal of data to protect on my i because it is a development machine. Probably *under use* is the issue.....
So, any "kick it in the head" solutions here? Barring that, any recommendations on a trustworthy repair facility? I found one place that charged $375.00 for an IBM LTO repair which beats buying a refurbished unit....
Suggestions would be appreciated....
