VIOS is a subset of AIX. It is a character based Unix type of system with no where near the ease of use of IBM i. While it does have advantages of being able to attach most industry standard SANs, it isn't easy to administer as IBM i.

VIOS is probably linux based. And many of those Linux propeller heads aren't as open to GUI as IBM i users are. At least that's what IBM told me when I asked for an enhancement to System i Navigator for Windows support for semaphores and threads. They rejected the request because true aficionados of semaphores and threads eschew GUI.

VIOS is may absolute favorite environment of all time. The command line
is awesome. The help text is clear and the examples are marvelous. The
menus are well organized and understandable. Everything is so intuitive
there and of course the GUI support is beyond believe.

Oh wiat, that was IBM i. Sorry, VIOS is none of that. ...
