IBM has been known to sub out the work, yes. The point is that the equipment
has gotten so reliable that in many cases, a call to IBM will get the parts
shipped to you to handle the repair yourself.

I'll agree that IBM did cut staffing a little too severely on occasion.
Often they retooled back up.
