I think that attitude is a little simplistic. Would you expect your S/36
save to be bootable media for a B10? No. There were some significant
hardware differences. Yes, that example is a little extreme. However,
let's say IBM came out with 6.1. After 6.1 came out and before 7.1 comes
out they make a 5886 disk container. Now, an existing 6.1 shop might be
able to get the new hardware, but before they do, they need to put on cume
such-and-such. A new 6.1 shop could do one of two things. One, not hook
up the 5886 until they install 6.1 and upgrade it to that cume. Or, two,
get a new respin of 6.1 that already has that cume applied. I think
that's a better explanation. Does that make sense?
