Jeff,

Your question piqued my interest because I recently implemented logic in my Web portal to redirect browsers to a static Web page when a menu item is clicked, instead of allowing the browser into the requested application, if the number of active sessions exceeds a maximum, which is defined in a table.

That table holds license keys for each "product" + "HTTP server instance" + "machine serial number", with the idea of implementing an optional session limit for each product, server instance, and machine.

In other words, my algorithm for generating a license key, and limiting active sessions, is based partly on machine serial number. Does that make sense? Is that the kind of feedback you were asking about?

I'd also be interested in hearing if other vendors are implementing session limits, or other usage based limits on packaged software, and whether that makes sense to customers.

Or, are you asking for opinions about licensing & pricing software, used only on HA backup machines?

How do you handle non-IBM Keyed software ?

We have Help Systems Products and they want us to buy a second license for the HA box. We are just starting into the HA world.
