It seems to me that the AMM would be the primary method for
communicating with the blade, so maybe the pass-though module with the 5
cat 5 cables is configured later when the blade is up and running ( I
don't know).
It seems the issue is just the AMM talking to the blade console and I
guess I'll have to call IBM tomorrow and see what they say. It is
probably a simple config issue, it is just a bit frustrating that the
startup, step by step, documentation is so lacking.
I'll poke around a bit but I probably won't do anything radical because
I am guessing this thing was set to startup and rock and roll, if only I
can figure out how.

This is pretty interesting. The thing that I am a little uncertain
about, and may not be related, is that the passthrough I/O module, the
one with the 5 cat5 cables running out of it (labeled A-E) is OK as
reported by the AMM but none of the cables light up an Ethernet port
when plugged in to a switch.
Hmm, there are two passthrough modules, one copper/ethernet and one
for serial (both use RJ45). What kind of modules do you have installed
exactly?
I've always used the Server Connectivity Module to provide ethernet
connectivity, maybe if you're using the ethernet passthrough module
you'll need network connectivity from the AMM to the Blade? Just a
wild guess.
