The BCS comes with a preset addressing scheme (192.168.70.125....) Does the JS12 follow some convention that would allow me to ID what IP address the IVM would be active on or should I just port scan for something open at port 80? Do I have to "start" VIOS first?

With multiple "layers" here, it is difficult to figure out what will start by itself and what needs to be started and configured. The BCS management console I can get to. It sees the blade. The blade is started (it is powered on) but the next step is the tough one. Knowing what address the IVM is on would be helpful.

Thanks,

Pete

You just need to get into IVM, which will look and feel like the HMC
(without all the functionality, but most). Use your browser to get into the
IVM and you can start that partition.

Subject: Starting a JS12 Blade with i5/OS

Pulled this thing out of the box today, set up the BCS, read everything that was included but there is no indication of how to start i5/OS and log in. I assume it will be using a LAN console.

The software came pre-installed, based on the the configuration and packing list, so I shouldn't have to install i5/OS (although there is plenty of documentation at IBM and on the web [thanks Lukas!] on how to install the OS). All I want to do is to start the OS up and log in. Yet, no "Getting Started" booklet. No "Start here" documentation. Just quite a few CD's, some diagrams and a few pointers on how to get to the BCS management console (Man! It's almost like it was a LINUX box! LOL! And, I know, it IS a Linux box, basically) . Actually, the BCS is pretty well documented (on line and with packing materials). It the JS12 Blade running VIOS and i5/OS that is lacking documentation.

Do I just stuff the iSeries Access DVD in and run it and it will find the JS12 automagically?

Pointers?

This will definitely be fun......

Pete
