As I clicked send on my prior response to this same message... I realized some worthwhile text was omitted from the recommendation to reinstall. The recommendation should have been more clear: Perform a D-mode IPL from tape, using the full save taken prior to the disk activity, to get back to the same PTF level that was installed before.

Also I was informed recently, although I have never done it nor do I know how long it has been supported, but a restore storage to the larger disks would have been the ideal solution. That requires however, that the old configuration would have been acceptable, because it must remain for that to occur. That method would have avoided the reload. With the larger disks, the ability to make disk changes might have become an option, if it may not have been an option prior; e.g. move to a mirrored configuration as was being done in this case.
